Why DeFi Is Inevitable

Early last week Bitcoin crossed 20 million BTC mined, out of a hard cap of 21 million coins that will ever exist.

That means more than 95% of the total supply is already in circulation, while the remaining issuance will become increasingly scarce over time.

In any market, when supply is this finite and long-term demand keeps accelerating, the asset becomes increasingly difficult to ignore.

Ok, so while this milestone hit what else has been happening in the space?

#1 - Well Crypto funding jumped 50% to $25.5B, even while the number of deals dropped nearly 46%. That means less speculation and more capital flowing into real infrastructure.

#2 - Multiple other long term conviction institutions continue to lead the accumulation trend.

  • Like Strategy buying over 3,000 BTC for about $204M and now holding over 720,000 BTC.
  • Or MARA Holdings now holding roughly 52,000 BTC
  • And Riot Platforms now having around 18,000 BTC.

#3 - In short institutional ownership continues to rise.

Public companies and institutions now control about 1.7 million BTC.

That's more than 8% of the total supply.

#4 - Also, more governments and states are beginning to formalize oversight as well.

For example, last week Florida is now advancing state level stablecoin regulation.

That's on top of already 21 states that have introduced or passed legislation enabling them to explore, hold, or develop Bitcoin or other digital asset reserves.

So in conclusion.

Digital assets are steadily moving from the edges of finance toward the core of the global financial system.

Remember that only a decade ago this space was mostly retail investors and early technologists experimenting with a new idea.

Today we see public companies holding Bitcoin on their balance sheets, ETFs absorbing billions in capital, governments writing stablecoin legislation, and global institutions building infrastructure around digital assets.

This my friends is the tipping point of global mass adoption for digital assets.

So buckle up because we're in the driver's seat of this revolution.
